The historic decision to implement 33% reservation for women in India’s Lok Sabha marks a transformative moment for Indian democracy. To fully realize this milestone and establish India as a global leader in gender-inclusive governance, the Indian Parliament must strategically evolve. This evolution requires supporting and empowering women representatives through inclusive infrastructure, gender-sensitive procedures, and a supportive cultural environment.
CGAP’s Parliamentary Readiness Report 2025 is the first-ever comprehensive, peer-reviewed study critically identifying strategic opportunities to position India as the best parliament globally, setting a new standard for gender inclusivity and to welcome an incoming cohort of 33% or more women MPs.
